McCain's choice reminds me of a man who is going through a mid-life crisis (though he passed mid-life years ago!). When a man feels like no one is paying him any attention, he forgets about common sense and goes out and get a woman young enough to be his daughter so everyone can tell him "he's the man". Palin is eye candy being used to pump McCain's image and allow him to stick his chest out. But, he doesn't want her to speak in public and show what she really doesn't know. It's very sad because most people with any sense know that McCain's just a desperate old man who sees this as his very last opportunity to be President. Desperate people do desperate things. Palin is being used but she doesn't care because she is now the rock star that the Republican Party accussed Senator Obama of being.

NPR this morning - sound bite from Palin. She was in Michigan when a woman named Kimberly (who claimed to be neither for or against Palin) asked Palin to defend the notion that she has no foreign policy experience.

"I want to give you your chance. Respond to that criticism and give us the specific skills that you have to rebut that...," Kimberly said.

Palin said "of course they're going to criticize me to tear down the ticket, but as for foreign policy, I think that I am prepared....I'll be ready, I have that confidence, I have that readiness, and if you want specifics go ahead and ask me...play stump the candidate."

The fact is, Kimberly did stump the candidate. At no point did Palin answer the question. She didn't give any specific examples. She didn't really answer the question. Just like she didn't know what Bush's Doctrine was in her interview with Gibson and tried to scoot around that.

She speaks well. She has good stage presence. I'll give her that much, but other than that.... we'll, I'm stumped.

I honestly believe that McCain and Palin will win this election. As someone stated earlier, if Obama would have picked Hillary for his running mate they would have went all the way to the white house. I also think that McCain waited to the very last minute to see who Obama was going to say his running mate was before he picked his and once he saw that Obama did not pick Hillary thats when he decided to pick Palin. You are all right she may not have foreign policy down but she does have heart and she also LOVES this country more than what I can say for Obama's wife or even Obama himself, what with his taking the American flag off his airplane. To me that just tell me if he is elected we are going to have a Terrorist for president, then where we all be??? Sorry just an opinion!

As one woman said, 'Palin "shows well"'
I think that is sufficient - damning with faint praise.

Both she and McCain don't put a lot fo thought into their pronouncements. They are not behaving like statesman - if they are elected they will use the same logical abilities as that fellow who was elected with "gentleman's Cs from Yale."

Every time I hear Palin speak, I have the same response - "Palin, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

say what you will about republicans and how they run things, they are generally smarter about winning elections, as they are more realistic about human nature. McCain realized that a huge part of the democratic/independent demographic was behind hilary because they wanted to see a woman in the white house. had obama taken hilary as a running mate he would be, in my opinion, unstoppable. as it is, a substantial number of former hilary supporters are now going to vote palin purely on basis of gender bias and personal identification. it's a brilliant sales/campaign move. have you seen the palin t shirts on cafe press?? intellectual arguments are fine and feel good but will not, in my opinion, sway the majority of voters. "the hero and the hottie" . . . yikes.

I could not agree with you more. Let's give some thought to the latest "media circus" surrounding this nomination, and the folks who endorse her. I have heard things like "Oh now they look so youthful." ( Mc Cain and Palin) Let's face it -too many Americans look at how they feel about the candidates. Is anyone considering what the world response to this will be? We are currently loosing ground on how respected we are abroad. If we vote this bunch in again, the US is in trouble. McCain will either declare he is not running, or the public will find him useless in two years and we will again waste another four years in repairing what ails us.
I know about world opinion, I have been to more than one - or four foreign countries. Then again, maybe I should be VP. I was also PTA President.-
